The Intercontinental Al Khobar is centrally located in the dense and busy business district, with no external visual attraction. Accordingly, the design resorted to an introverted approach, capitalizing on the creation of an indoor atrium to seek interest and inward animation in isolation from the outdoors.
Guest rooms in this business hotel are conceived as mini-suites, each with their independent private sitting and sleeping areas. Through a controlled fenestration system, the architecture aims to optimize privacy by restricting views towards more favorable conditions whilst shielding the interior from undesirable sun exposure.
The top floor is dedicated to an executive and business lounge in adjacency to a fitness center and spa, a covered terrace and an outoor panoramic pool.
