SOUKS DEPARTMENT STORE

In Association with

Zaha Hadid Architects

The project is a mixed-use development in Beirut Souks, featuring a department store, luxury apartments, high-end retail, and recreational facilities above an existing three- story underground car park. Positioned at the northwest corner, it stands as a prominent landmark, flanked by a new public square west of the historic Majidiyyah Mosque. The building’s design involves merging two blocks into a single entity, represented by a Diagrid skin that seamlessly twists to achieve the desired mass and integrate with the surroundings. This twisting movement not only breaks down the volume in elevation but also creates a figure-eight flow within the building, reducing its contextual impact and freeing up space in front of the Majidiya Mosque.
